French for Pleasure and Personal Achievement
If you are already a regular visitor to France you have no doubt discovered by now that the idea that "the whole world speaks English" is something of a popular myth. True enough, a great many people around the world have a little bit of English, especially in the hospitality industry. It's a basic requirement of the job as it enables them to serve customers of all nationalities, not just the British. But this has only tended to lull us into a false sense of security. Just because your waiter can say "Do you want ice with your coke?", doesn't necessarily mean you could have a conversation with him.
In fact, if you've ever had to ask for something in the chemist say, you'll know exactly what I mean. You may well have found yourself having to come up with some very inventive gestures to try and explain your symptoms and what it was you needed.
But necessity aside, wouldn't it be great if you could make a bit of light conversation with your waiter. It would make the whole dining experience so much more enjoyable. Or better still, get into conversation with the French family at the next table. In fact, they're much more likely to strike up a conversation with you when they realise you can speak their language.
If you would like to get more out of your time in France, whether it's simply a couple of weeks on holiday each year or longer periods spent enjoying your holiday home, I can get you started or help you brush up your school French. If you do have a second home there I can also help you with some of the more specialised language that will make it easier for you to deal with things like trades people and services for example.
With one-to-one tuition you can learn a lot in a short space of time, but without pressure. We can work at your pace - learning should be fun after all. Once you have just enough French to get out there and start practicing in real situations your fluency will increase quickly and dramatically. All you need is the confidence, and I can help you with that too.
Although I mainly teach one-to-one, I am also happy to work with couples or friends who want to learn together, or even small family groups. All I need is for you to let me know what I can do for you.
